V&A Make & Do for Kids

Design activities from the V&A, from a fantastic creature to a patterned tile or a story setting.

The V&A’s Make & Do page links practical making to objects in the museum’s collection, with a separate section for children. The activities treat design as choosing shapes, patterns, materials and meanings. The story-making activity can grow into costumes, scenery and a small performance, and the pattern activity leads into repeated shapes and tessellation.

What kids do

  • Design a surreal creature
  • Make a tessellating pattern
  • Invent a party outfit
  • Create costumes and a story setting

Who it suits

The V&A labels its featured children’s design activities for ages 7 and up.

Notes for parents

The rest of the Make & Do page is aimed at adults, so the children’s section is the place to start. A child who enjoys visual order might go for the tile pattern, and a storyteller for the setting and costumes.
