Accessibility
bored.kids should work for every parent and carer, however they browse. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we’ve built in
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a “Skip to content” link.
- Pages use real headings, landmarks, labelled buttons and form fields, so screen readers can move around them.
- Images have text alternatives, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Form errors, votes and filter results are announced to screen readers as they happen.
- Text and controls meet AA colour-contrast levels, and layouts reflow at phone width and when zoomed, without sideways scrolling.
- Animations are switched off when your device asks for reduced motion, and nothing on the site has a time limit or plays sound.
How we check
Before changes go live, automated accessibility tests run on the main pages at desktop and phone sizes, and we use the site with a keyboard. We fix problems as we find them.
What we know isn’t perfect
Product images are screenshots of each provider’s own app or website. The text inside them isn’t read out in full; the listing itself describes what kids do. Links to providers and app stores take you to sites we don’t run, and their accessibility is up to them.
Tell us about a barrier
If something on bored.kids is hard to use, or you need information in another format, tell us through the contact form, saying which page and what happened. We will reply if you leave an email address, and fix what we can.
