Snap!
A visual programming editor for building programs, drawings, animations and games from blocks.
Snap! is a block-based programming environment for children and adults, with room to grow from a small program into more involved computing ideas. The website has learning resources and example projects across art, animation, games and simulations. Unlike a sequence of levels, the editor leaves the goal to the maker.

Who it suits
A self-directed child with a small idea in mind will probably get more out of it than one who wants step-by-step levels.
Notes for parents
A public gallery shows projects by other users, and the site is available in several languages. Taking an example apart to see how one piece works is another way in.
