Coding
Bitsbox
Kids type the code for small apps, run them in a browser, then change the code.
Bitsbox pairs project materials with an online coding environment for making small apps and games. A child picks a project, types its code into the website, then edits it to get a different result. Along the way the sequence brings in coordinates, variables, conditions and functions. Finished apps run on devices with a web browser.

What kids do
- Type a short app project
- Change variables or coordinates
- Experiment with game behaviour
- Run a creation in a browser
Who it suits
Bitsbox gives an age range of 6–12. Since typing and reading are involved, younger children might share the first sessions with an adult.
Notes for parents
Bitsbox describes it as needing no previous coding experience. Changing a single detail in a working example keeps the link between a line of code and its effect easy to talk about.
