Chess
Story Time Chess
Kids learn how each chess piece moves through silly stories about characters like King Chomper, using a special board and pieces.
Story Time Chess sets out to teach chess to children as young as three by giving every piece a character and a tale. King Chomper, for instance, loves snacks so much that his pockets are stuffed, so he can only shuffle one slow step at a time, which happens to be exactly how a king moves. The game set comes with silly illustrated stories, custom character pieces and a double-sided board: one side shows the characters to make setup easy, the other is a standard chessboard. After each story, short exercises let kids try the new move with pieces in hand. The maker says grown-ups need no chess background either, and the read-aloud format looks suited to a cozy evening on the floor together.
