Nal’ibali Stories

Nal’ibali’s audio-story page collects recorded stories in South African languages.

Recordings are sorted by language, among them English, Afrikaans, isiXhosa and isiZulu, so a family can begin with the one spoken at home. Nal’ibali itself is a wider reading-for-enjoyment campaign that also publishes multilingual written stories. With no animation, the setting is left to the listener’s imagination.

What kids do

  • Pick a story language
  • Listen to a recorded story
  • Retell a favorite moment
  • Browse multilingual written stories

Who it suits

Intended for families listening and reading together. A child used to cartoons might take a little while to settle into audio on its own.

Notes for parents

The audio collection and the written stories are separate, and they don’t line up title for title. Drawing a character afterward is one way to stretch a session.
