Reading
Bookbot
Kids read decodable books out loud while the app listens along and steps in on tricky words.
Bookbot is a reading app built around listening. A child chooses a decodable book at their phonics level and reads each page aloud, and the app follows along with speech recognition, offering instant feedback and help on any word that trips them up. From the look of its library, the collections are organized around things kids gravitate toward: adventure, science, animals, everyday life and Minecraft-themed books. Stars and rewards mark progress, and a storytime mode lets kids sit back and listen instead. A separate Bookbot Reports app shows grown-ups what has been read and which sounds a child is working on. The maker notes that books and audiobooks download for offline reading, which could suit trips. It is aimed at kindergarten through third grade, so fluent readers may move past it quickly.
