Alphablocks World

Kids watch Alphablocks clips, sing phonics songs and read interactive books that use the sounds they just heard.

Alphablocks World is the app spin-off of the Alphablocks TV show, where living letters join up to form words. The app is arranged in five levels that seem to track how phonics is taught, moving from the alphabet to letter blends, letter teams like sh and igh, and long vowels. At each stage kids watch short clips drawn from more than 80 episodes, sing along to phonics songs and then read interactive books built from the sounds they have just met. The maker mentions that episodes can be streamed or downloaded for offline viewing. Since every letter is a character with a voice and a personality, the sounds may stick the way cartoon friends do. Families following a different reading method might find the order a touch unfamiliar.

Blue Zoo, the animation studio behind Alphablocks and Numberblocks, made it, and the shows follow the phonics approach used in UK schools. Each stage seems to move from clip to song to book, which keeps sittings short.
